So let’s get into this…Learning about leadership is a topic I have a particular interest in, working as part of a team to deliver meaningful outcomes and empower others to achieve their full potential. Plus we all know what it feels like to experience terrible leadership…how on earth do we avoid this?
The catalyst for this interest was being elected as Culm Valley Young Farmers’ Club Social Secretary at the age of 18. I got such a buzz out of bringing people together to have a fantastic time. We went the extra mile to organise the best Friday night discos and barn dances in the district!
I’m going to share bite-size sections of my Nuffield Farming Scholarship report nuffieldscholar.org which provided me with the time to learn from the best leaders from inside and outside of agriculture globally and could have significant benefits in helping to lead positive change.
Leadership is needed so everyone working within agriculture feels empowered to take ownership of our collective responsibilities. Decisions are required at all levels to maintain positive momentum in the face of future challenges to the food system.
What is your experience of leadership and why we need it?
